Phosphatidic acid (PA) has been reported to activate the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway and is thought to enhance the anabolic effects of resistance training. The purpose of this pilot study was to examine if oral phosphatidic acid administration can enhance strength and muscle thickness during an 8-week resistance training program. Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition 2012, 9:47 doi:10.1186/1550-2783-9-47
During this study the subjects noticed a significant improvement of strength and lean body mass compared to the placebo. Since this is a fairly new study, there haven’t been too many supplement companies to add PA into their arsenal of strength enhancers. Since Phosphatidic Acid looks promising we are sure to see this emerge especially now since most pro-hormones have been pulled from the market.
We have found two products that contain PA so far –Cutler Nutrition King and Gaspari Nutrition Adrenocharge. Both contain almost the full recommended dose used in the study. Not only did individuals see an increase in lean body mass, but they also experienced a delay in muscle fatigue. This could be potentially huge for endurance athletes looking to get that extra edge.
