Why should I take Whey Protein after my Workout?

whey proteinA regular training program followed by tangible progress requires a well thought through nutritional plan. Some people believe that it’s best not to eat anything after a workout but regardless of what you goal is protein, especially after a workout can’t do you any harm. In most cases, after you put your muscles under strain, it is beneficial to consume protein – the main compound of our cells, especially of muscle. In the 45 minutes that follows your workout (anabolic window), more happens than you could ever imagine. This is when the most reparative and recovery processes happen in your muscles.

Protein Timing – Why Post Workout?

During exercise muscle fibers are ripped and the protein breaks down. Afterwards, muscle protein synthesis remains stable, while protein breakdown increases significantly. Basically, this means that if you don’t increase your protein intake, you will break down rather than build muscle. It is absolutely essential for muscle hypertrophy (growth), to keep the protein intake high at all times but especially after workout. In the mentioned recovery process that follows your workout (around 45 minutes) protein is needed to restore and grow the muscle cells. Even though your body and workout intensity will benefit from pre- workout protein, after a strenuous session at the gym your muscles need it most – amino acids, after all, are the ‘building blocks’ of protein, which in turn is essential for muscle function and growth. You should definitely consider adding at least 30g of protein such as a scoop of Rule One Protein to your daily intake and ingest it post workout.

Types of Protein – Why Whey?

High-quality protein provides all the essential amino acids your body is unable to synthesize. Milk products and meats contain a large proportion of branched-chain amino acids so they can be quite a good choice. These amino acids are essential for stimulating new muscle and speed up muscle recovery, especially after hard workouts. Even though natural foods are often good sources of protein and amino acids, whey isolate and concentrate are the best post workout protein sources.  Protein is known not only to aid in muscle recovery and growth but it also keeps you full longer by reducing production of hormones responsible for hunger. People on high protein diets have less body fat and tend to snack less. Also, it is simply more convenient and quicker than preparing a meal and you can have it anywhere at any time.

But what if you knew that whey protein can help you fight off cancer and other diseases? Some studies show that whey protein increases glutathione production. Glutathione is an anti-oxidant your body uses to fight off free radicals causing diseases. Glutathione is made up from amino acids so you see how it’s very important to consume adequate protein, especially if you work out. It aids not only muscle healing but healing overall. Other studies also show that whey protein such as Whey Protein Gold Standard can help defeat high blood pressure and cholesterol.

You don’t always need fancy products. Less is more when it comes to supplements. Even though it’s important to consume adequate protein directly post workout, especially strength training, don’t forget all nutrients and food groups are important, and make sure you have a balanced diet.

MAN Sports Releases Two New Iso-Amino Flavors – Pineapple Express and SweetDelish!

Just when you thought they couldn’t possibly add any new tasty flavors, MAN Sports unleashes two more to the list with Pineapple Express and SweetDelish Iso-Aminos!  We had to crack them open to give it a shot and they are amazing yet again!  The Pineapple Express has a great aroma of Pineapple upon cracking the seal and the amino powder is so fine it dusts up if you give the container a slight shake.  The powder dissolves almost immediately and you don’t have to continue to shake or stir the contents with very little sediment at the bottom.  The flavor is amazing…  pure pineapple!  It doesn’t leave any nasty aftertaste, it actually still tastes like you were eating a pineapple!  The Amino profile is the same as the other flavors containing:

MAN ISO Amino SweetDelish

2500mg of L-Leucine
1250mg of L-Valine
1250mg of L-Isoleucine

Now for the SweetDelish… After cracking open this one, it has a mild fruity aroma.  And now for the taste test.  It’s not as sweet as some of the other flavors MAN has introduced.  It has more of a hint of the Swedish Fish flavor.  There isn’t any real after taste or chemical type lingering effect either.  It mixes the same as the other and this flavor I could drink more often since it’s not as sweet as some of the others.

Keep in mind MAN has the small batch philosophy too.  This keeps products fresher as well as enhancing the quality.  Each batch is tested before it’s released to the market to assure you, the customer, receives the best possible product.  Know when you buy a supplement from MAN Sports you are getting what the label says.

Perform at your highest level with Sustamine™

Many companies are jumping on the Sutamine™ (l-alanyl-l-glutamine) wagon but many consumers know little about it. Sutamine™ had been introduced to the industry in the early parts of 2010, with a quick action in placing the compound into supplement formulations. The real question is, what is it?

The basics of Sustamine™ is that it is an ingredient that has scientifically proved to help hydrate the body and sustain energy during exercise or exertion.* It has been said to enhance water and electrolyte absorption during hydration process, stimulate glycogen synthesis*, inhibit muscle protein breakdown*, promote muscle protein synthesis, and stimulate the immune system*.

It has been shown in studies by the Institute of Exercise Physiology and Wellness, University of Central Florida that Sustamine™ has shown a large increase in cognitive response when consuming Sustamine™ than the participants that consumed nothing and those who consumed a sports electrolyte drink, not containing Sustamine™.

What makes this compound that much better than regular L-Glutamine?

The compound Sustamine™ is a set; Dipeptides: L-Alanyl-L-Glutamine. Dipeptides are whole proteins important for providing amino acids. A dipeptide is the most efficient form of protein for absorption. Dipeptides are processed and accepted by specific transporters that are located in the gut surface. The key to the dipeptide is for the body to absorb the l-glutamine compound more effectively.

USPlabs Modern BCAA+ - Sustamine

The first part of the Sustamine™ compound is l-alanine. Alanine is categorized as a non-essential amino acid, whereas glutamine is conditionally essential. Alanine is a key amino acid used for the transportation of nitrogen inside the bodies muscle structure to the liver. At the liver, the amino acid alanine is then converted to glucose. This process is called the “glucose-alanine cycle”.

Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid that holds many health benefits other than sports and recreational use. It can be used for individuals who are catabolic, malnourished, or those who are critically ill. Glutamine has shown to improve and support the bodies immune system, nitrogen balance and has shown to enhance the rate of protein synthesis.

Are there side effects of Sustamine™ use?

To date there has been NO adverse side effects reported when consuming Sustamine™ as a stand-alone product.*

As mentioned before, many brands in the supplement industry have began to use
Sustamine™ in their formulations. Some examples are USPlabs Modern BCAA+, Animal Juiced Aminos, and Betancourt Nutrition Glutamine Plus. For full nutritional panels, visit product pages to see which one is right for you and stay hydrated with Sustamine™!
