SuperPump 250 With DMAA by Gaspari Nutrition

Ever since Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals acquired co-ownership of Gaspari Nutrition, they have been re-launching a slew of old products that were very popular a few years back, one of them being SuperPump 250 with DMAA.  Though the formula has changed a bit, it has been selling quite well so we decided to crack one open to see what the fuss was about.

To start off SuperPump 250 contains DMAA or 1,3 Demthylamylamine HCl which is a central nervous system stimulant that provides great focus and energy without the jitters. Combining this with Caffeine makes for a great pre-workout in itself.  It isn’t overly stimmy like other pre-workouts that are on the market and it packs enough punch for a great training session.gaspari-nutrition-super-pump-250-supplement-central

In addition SuperPump contains two main pump ingredients, L-Citrulline Silicate and Agmatine Silicate with Red Wine Extract thrown in there too. The pump you get from this product is ridiculous and long lasting.  That’s one thing that’s very hard to find, most nitric oxide boosting supplements only give you a pump that lasts maybe 20 minutes after your workout.  The pump you get from this product lasts hours after your workout which is amazing!

To give even more mental concentration Bacopa is added along with L-Taurine.  These ingredients help improve your ability to focus and reduce anxiety.  Taking this supplements with caffeine reduces the feeling of nervousness which could be detrimental to an intense training session.

Gaspari also didn’t skimp with the creatine.  Typically most pre’s have only creatine monohydrate added which isn’t bad, but its the cheapest form of creatine that’s available. SuperPump 250 contains 1.5 grams of Creatine Hydrochloride otherwise know as Creatine HCl.  Not only is this an effective dose of creatine, this is one of the most expensive creatines on the market and one of the most effective.  The water retention is minimal as only the internal muscle tissue holds the excess water and nothing is held on the outside of the cell.  This prevents that puffy look creatine monohydrate typically gives you.

Now adding all these effective ingredients gives you one hell of a pre-workout so how is the taste? Well it’s not the greatest honestly and it’s a bit chalky.  Most of these compounds taste awful by themselves and to completely mask that would be just about impossible.  But, who takes a pre-workout for taste?  If you are looking for incredible focus and long lasting pumps give this a shot you won’t be disappointed!

Mutant BCAA’s Review

mutant bcaa 9.7Every person familiar with the fitness and bodybuilding industry must have at least heard of BCAA’s. But what are they really, how do they work and is it worth investing in a BCAA supplement?

Unlike other supplements, BCAA’s have been thoroughly researched and the studies show that BCAA supplements are indeed beneficial.

What are BCAA’s?

Let’s look at the basic science behind building muscle.  Muscle mass is equal to the rate of protein synthesis minus the rate of protein breakdown. If both are equal – you don’t gain or lose. If you break down more than you synthesize you will lose so it’s in your best interest to increase the muscle synthesis and recovery as much as you can. Especially during dieting and cutting you are more likely to cause catabolism with the calorie deficit and reduce synthesis.

So whether bulking or cutting (but especially the latter), you need to make sure to do your best to minimize catabolism (muscle breakdown) and maximize synthesis (growth).

This is where BCAA’s or branched-chain amino acids come in. They stimulate protein synthesis, possibly even more efficiently than regular protein on its own. BCAA’s have high bioavailability, they encourage cellular repair and muscle synthesis.

On the other hand BCAA’s reduce the catabolic effects of training and dieting. As you can see it’s a win- win situation. You won’t lose and gain more muscle! Quite a good outcome, if you ask me.

Other Benefits

Another benefit of BCAA’s is that they have the potential to increase workout performance.

During exercise, serotonin in the brain can increase the perception of fatigue and tiredness and cut your workout short. But BCAA supplementation reduces the amount of tryptophan and serotonin in the brain, and therefore reduces the amount of serotonin produced. This will ensure your workouts are more productive.

Does Brand Matter?

Firstly, some people say that whey will do you just as well. Is simply not true as BCAA supplements contain them in a free form easily absorbable and ready to hit your body straight away.

So what brands dominate the market when it comes to BCAA’s?

Rankings show that Optimum Nutrition and Muscle Pharm are popular in the community. Personally I have tried Mutant and found that it was rather effective in putting on muscle mass and reducing recovery time. It has a good ratio of BCAA’s (high dose of leucine) plus glutamine. Capsules are easy and portable, and powders are tasty. You may think taste is not important but if this is something you used every day – well it is quite important not to gag every time you take a sip.

Give it a try

Especially if you’re just getting into the world of supplements – invest in a good quality product such as Mutant and observe how it works. More expensive isn’t always better but it helps to do research first.  If you love it – great, if not something else. And most of all remember – it’s the hard work, the diet and then the supplements.

Quest Nutrition…Oh so good!

quest bar pumpkin

By now you have all heard of Quest Bars.  They are the most amazing protein bars you will ever try.  It is said to be the “#1 Protein Bar” available.  And I am inclined to believe so.  Not only is it simply delicious but it is packed full of very impressive nutrtional numbers.

Lets take a look at the newest badass bar for fall “Pumpkin Pie”.  As for the taste they do not disappoint.  They are a bit different then the other quest bars as they have a glazed coating.  When you bite into this delicious fall treat you will taste the chunks of graham cracker bites that are mixed in.  This bar definitely hits the spot when having a sweet craving!   There is a whooping 21 grams of protein, 12 grams of fiber and only 4 net carbs.  Not to mention less than 1 gram of sugar and gluten free. All of the Quest Bars have pretty comparable numbers.

They are also all made with minimal ingredients and the ingredients that are in them are natural.  NATURAL is very important!  Here are the ingredients in most of the bars:

Whey and milk protein isolate

Soluble Corn Fiber (Prebiotic Fiber) (100% natural)

All natural almond or peanut butter

Almond, peanuts, or cashews

Sea salt, natural flavors

Lo Han Guo (a natural herb/sweetener)

Stevia

Sucralose

Not much else goes into these bars making them a great choice for people who are concerned with having a more natural bar. quest bars

Another reason I LOVE these bars is because there is so much you can do with them besides eat them straight from the wrapper (I personally love them that way the best).  There are so many different recipes.  Below is one of my favorites:

Introducing Animal Mass – From the makers of Animal Pak

Animal has just released it’s version of a weight gainer supplement called Animal Mass. It’s geared for those who are looking for an above average weight gainer and not settling for the run-of-the-mill sugar infused, cheap protein sourced garbage that seems to be everywhere.

With Animal Mass you are getting a phenomenal carbohydrate blend of maltodextrin, inulin, oat fiber and wazy maize, all key components for serious growth.  The maltodextrin will give your system a great insulin spike which can be very beneficial post workout.  The oat fiber and wazy maize are great for the sustained release of energy which will keep you fuller for a much longer time period.

The Animal Mass Protein Blend is also top notch.  It consists of ultra filtrated whey protein concentrate, cross flow micro filtered whey protein isolate, hydrolyzed whey protein, milk protein concentrate, micellar casein and instant egg albumin.  This blend not only gives you the fast acting proteins for immediate amino uptake, it also provides you with the slow digesting proteins to keep the amino acids flowing in your blood stream, which is another key component to this formula.

Now to aid your body in digesting all this calorie goodness, Animal has also incorporated the following EFA’s and Digestive Enzymes; MCT powder, sunflower oil powder, flax seed powder, papain and bromelain.  MCTs are a beneficial supplement for fueling physical exertion given their rapid rate of absorption and quick metabolic conversion into cellular energy.  MCTs can be quickly mobilized in the post-exercise recovery phase to rebuild muscles and prevent catabolism as well.  Bromelain not only aids in digestion, it also helps reduce inflammation and decreases healing time.  Papain has a unique quality as it helps the digestion of proteins.

Animal has been in this game for years and they never have lacked in quality with their supplements.  They put a lot of time, money and research into perfecting their products before they are released.  You can’t go wrong with Animal.
